GeoLIBERO: Consolidation of an open source geomatics network applied to the needs of Ibero-American countries

GeoLIBERO is a new research network promoted by Cyted, and whose coordination lies with the gvSIG Association. This network is made up of dozens of researchers from more than 18 countries, and its general objective is to consolidate and make sustainable a thematic network of knowledge exchange and cooperation between different R&D&I groups in the Ibero-American region related to the field of Geomatics over time and its application to the needs and study of the main problems in Ibero-American countries.

Cyted is the Ibero-American Programme on Science and Technology for Development, created by the governments of Ibero-American countries in order to promote cooperation in science, technology and innovation for the harmonious development of Ibero-American countries.

The specific objective is to enhance synergies between the R&D lines of the members to develop an open and free ICT infrastructure of geomatics applied to the needs of the Ibero-American region.

Its applicability to sectors and factors that occupy the first places of concern in Ibero-American countries is the GeoLIBERO goal: security, municipal management, rurality, transparency, infrastructure, environment, agriculture, etc. All this working with open source software, thus maximizing the transfer of technology and knowledge.

The project is in its early development phases and different working groups are already being formed to deepen the different lines of research that have been defined.
